I glanced over this painting and something doesn’t seem right. The character seems to pop at you, the strong emotions, the sadness, the feeling of loneliness and not fitting it. It’s just on the train, an everyday boring mundane trip yet so must more to it. I could not stare and feel.
Then I move to see other works by Alexa Meade and it grabs me with her strong emotional painting. It makes you feel something unique. That is the purpose of art. Going to art galleries where you see many pieces of different artists with similar techniques bores me. The great artists are the ones that are brave enough to master 2 synergistic art forms to make something that is unique. Painting and photo is two classic art forms yet not much art is there that combines to create something we have not seen. This is what makes Alexa Meade different.
But it’s not just a gimmick. She masterfully tells a story and if you see all her pieces for each series you will admire and discover the subtleties and beauty she is expressing through her work. As you look at more of her work you will be able to see how she stretches her unique style in many different ways.
