Caitlin Power: The Inside Scoop on this Canadian Fashion Designer

Anyone who appreciates the artistic work of Canadian talent will easily fall in love with the work of Caitlin Power.  Known for her womenswear fashion label, Caitlin presents the perfect balance of edgy and femininity to her newest collection.  At her Spring Summer 2014 runway show at World Mastercard Fashion Week, Caitlin Power wowed the crowed with her own spin on classic pieces.  Sheer sleeve blouses, snakeskin prints, including our favourites – bold and glamorous pops of ruby red, especially used on the coats.

MIKI: What is your inspiration for Spring 2014?

CAITLIN POWER: I was really inspired by my trip to St. Martin in June. Everything from the music, the culture, the food and the people inspired me.

MC: How would you describe the woman you are designing for?

CP: She’s the definition of a “Power Woman”. Bold, strong, and sophisticated. She knows who she is and what she wants.

MC: How does your own style influence the designs you create for your own fashion label?

CP: I try not to let my own personal style influence my designs. I do love minimalism though, and you can see that in my designs as well as my personal style.

MC: How would you describe your design process?  And, what is the greatest challenge when designing?

CP: The design process is long and starts with fabric, trend forecasting and getting inspired. I think the greatest challenge in design is finding something that really inspires you. When I am truly inspired (SS14 collection) the collection comes together more effortlessly.

MC: You’ve garnered quite a bit of success in fashion.  Some designers do collaborations, others go into other forms of artistic expression.  Where or how would you like to see your work evolve?

CP: Eventually I would like to see CAITLIN POWER evolve into a lifestyle brand. I would love to do a line of accessories, shoes, handbags, etc.

MC:  Where can our readers find your label?

CP: The CAITLIN POWER collection will be available at Pomp and Pageantry in Yorkville, Mijaneaux in Woodbridge, V Boutique on Queen St West, Leo Boutique in Calgary and EVA Boutique in New York

MC: If you could choose one designer or famous person to work with, who would that be?

CP: I would love to work with Oprah, I can’t even tell you exactly what I would want to collaborate on but I think she is a phenomenal woman.

MC:  Thanks for sharing with our readers.  We’re excited to see your new collection hit stores for Spring 2014!
