When one thinks of being “green” , the first thought that comes to mind is the phrase “reducing, reusing, and recycling”. A Toronto based brand has latched onto this idea effectively in the form of stylish and practical designs making use of gently used fabrics. The founder of Preloved, Julia Grieve, opened the first store in 1995 and has only moved up since. Grieve has been asked to appear on numberous television shows, such as Project Runway Canada and How to Look Good Naked Canada, and was also the host of Diva on a Dime. Along with creative designer, Peter Friesen, the Preloved named has moved out of Toronto and extended its reach as far to Australia, the U.S., Japan and all over Europe.
The designs for Preloved are chic and modern and celebrities including Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, have been known to sport the brand. Despite its cosmopolitan appeal, the biggest claim to fame for Preloved is its green initiative and sustainability. Grieve has stayed true to her beginnings and still uses only pre-worn clothing, such as sweaters or jeans, however, she does not limit herself and also creates wonderful designs from curtains, and bed sheets. No matter what materials are used, this writer still thinks Preloved creates some of the cutest dresses she’s ever seen.
And be sure to check out the Spring 2010 collection by Preloved, showcasing at next month’s Toronto LG Fashion Week!

Design and print-making company TeoJasmin was founded in 2001 by French printmaker Angeline Bailly. Based out of Paris, France, Bailly expertly applies creative prints to canvases, cushions, stickers, and bags of all sorts. The depictions of fruit and desserts emploued by TeoJasmin are simplistic, yet eye-catching, and bright, yet subtle. In addition, the small Parisian company beautifully reupholsters furniture pieces with world renowned designs such as photographs of The Beatles, James Dean and America’s Route 66.
TeoJasmin‘s tote bags would make a great addition to the wardrobe of any neo-hippie London teenager, or any teenager around the world for that matter. It’s hard not to ignore some of the most iconic figures of the past 100 years printed on your bag or on the back of your chair. Here are some of my favourite TeoJasmin creations:

Its completely understandable when a girl is on the go and she doesn’t have that much time to put a fabulous outfit together. Nevertheless, Ashley Tisdale’s attempt here for a casual trendy “look” failed horribly.
The sneakers and the high socks should never have happened!! Especially with the combination of a white tee and true religion hat. The overall look seems a bit to hard for Ashley’s usual classy style.
Its defiently possible to brighten Ashley’s look up, while still creating a casual cool on-the-go style. Lets start by re-styling Ashley in a Juzd “The Big 25″ female black tee (which was designed in honor of Chris Bosh for his 25th birthday.) The tee is basic black with the number 25 making a gold statement at the front. It’s a great crewneck cut along with the comfort that it brings from the 95% bamboo and 5% spandex.
The Big 25 tee also pairs very nicely with Ashley’s black leggings. To complete the restyle and to add some color to the darkness of the ensemble, we will add a multi color Tolani scarf. Continuing to work our way down lets repeat the gold from our Juzd tee and add some Steve Madden t-strap ruffled sandals. The final touch will be a Mui Mui soft black leather shoulder bag!
See you can do a casual fabulous style without spending hours in your closet! Oh and Ashley…loose the ball cap all together

It’s a quiet lonely Saturday night here in Toronto. Freezing cold outside, the landscape buried in knee high snow. What a prefect night to reflect on life and the year past. 365 days ago and no one really knew who I was. I was really just a regular guy, like the too many millions trying to start their own thing. Now just a year later and WOW, how have things changed. Within a year I’ve been on TV several times, featured in many magazines, traveled around the world, all the major fashion cities in the US, have some of the most high end stores carry my line, and had my shirt featured
predominantly in a national commercial. I have hundreds or maybe even over a thousand people hanging my shirt next to their Christian Audiger, Prada, Armani, and Gucci shirts.
Within 365 days I have celebrities proudly wearing my shirts on the red carpet, on TV, and other places. I have stores contacting me asking to carry my line, contrast a year ago I was knocking on doors of the stores only to have it (slam) closed more quickly than I can introduce myself. It’s kind of wild and nothing I expected.
It’s odd, I meet people who don’t want to talk about themselves but want to hear my stories and adventures. Lot of people I talk to have heard or seen JUZD. People want to take pictures with me! (I’m not that famous, I haven’t been asked for an autograph yet)
Last week a model tried on my shirt and her eyes lid up, she shouted with excitement “I really like this!” and I remember a model telling me that “I love modeling for you, I get to model something I would wear.” In retrospect I am surprised every time someone sees my shirt and go crazy for it. I think it’s nice but not something I would go crazy about… I’m one of those artist who are insecure about his own creations. When I wear my stuff I feel proud but at the same time I feel like one of those designers who hand made their shirt and proudly wears it and think it’s the shit while others giggle and just thinks it’s shit.
Everything have been mind blowing and amazing and I am bathing in all the attention and limelight. The one thing I envy most of all great artists is that they are able to have everlasting footprint in the history of culture. That is one thing that gets me off, that I have touched culture and I am in the position to influence it. I have an affect to influence the future of culture, of how people dress, of how people feel, and how people think. If you think about that for a moment, it’s really crazy.
It is like a dream but it’s only the beginning. 2009 is position to be the year that JUZD explodes. I can guarantee that. I have a really great team behind me and and support from a lot of people. We are ready to really take the planet by storm!
