World Mastercard Fashion Week Toronto: VAWK Fall/Winter 2014 Collection

Sunny Fong, Creative Director of his label, Vawk, put everyone into shock during the middle of his Fall/Winter 2014 runway show at World Mastercard Fashion Week.

Known for his gorgeous designs, the gasps echoed down the runway as Amy Almiero-Winters – a woman who lost her left leg in a motorcycle accident in 1994, took the runway in an intricately detailed prosthetic leg.

Everyone could not take their eyes of the meticulously crafted prosthetic piece, and an applause was definitely deserved for pushing the level of diversity. Sunny really made a statement about who can really take the runway. This does, however, remind us of the late, yet immensely talented Alexander McQueen, who often pushed the creative boundaries and also put an amputee on his catwalk.

The rest of Vawk’s collection, named, ‘1,001 Nights,’ was inspired by a combination of Middle East and streetwear.   The collection featured plenty of black, with cut-outs that appeared to look like animalistic slashes, black-on-black crocodile prints mixed with leather or sequins and androgynous, yet sexy, cuts.
